Sailed back to the US on the 'Ile de France', with Norah, on the 26 Apr 1945. Fellow American ATA pilot Victor Pieper and his English wife Hazel accompanied them. m. 1954 in Florida, Corrinne Edith [Huber] [3 children] In 1959 he joined up with Cuban Sergio Hernandez Reyes and Peter Lambton, the son of ex-ATA pilot Ruth Ballard, in a CIA plot to overthrow Castro. They went to Cuba, but were captured almost immediately and sentenced to jail.
Austin was released after 42 months, having repeatedly escaped from Cuban jails. Meanwhile, Corinne worked as a waitress and looked after the 3 children...
